Suspended Tepee…
… or flying -tipi
This 4m tepee ,developed in France by Les Tentes d’Avalon, offers an authentic alternative to traditional tepees.
Indeed, only 1 pole is necessary to the assembly, instead of the 12 traditionally used.
The lightness of the whole makes it the tipi of the trip par excellence (about 12kg in tarpaulin 300 gr / m²).
A little history
Since the dawn of time, the tepee has lost nothing of the fascination it exerts on who has the chance and the pleasure of enjoying it for a trip, a season, or just a night, near his fiery heart which is the fire, looking through the smoke-hole the stars parade!
It connects us in an intuitive way to the great wanderings of humanity during the marches through the tundra, the taiga, from one continent to another in search of new lands ….
In these mythical times, the weaving was almost unknown and the ancestors of the tipis were made of skins of reindeer and deer: A survival cell facing an overpowering nature, in a night that could sometimes last for months, only lit by the lights of an aurora borealis and the glow of the stars … It was in these tents that the fire was maintained with devotion, it was his survival in a world in constant change, in the purest sense of the term.

The revolutionary system
The opening of the smoke evacuation is formed not by the exit of the poles to the outside but only thanks to two branches recovered on site, attached in X on the central pole.
The best in applied ecology
The many poles necessary for a Tipi assembly in its classic version, as we know the Native American tribes, poses a real obstacle to easy movements for those who wish to travel with light luggage.
The Mono-Pole Tepee offers a real alternative!
Made of 300g / m2 lightweight Polycotton fabric, very tear and water resistant, it weighs only a few kilograms while giving you a covered floor space of about 15 m² for the 4 m model.
All the genius of the design of this exceptional Tipi, is also shown by its clever smoke evacuation system, which is adjusted from the outside by means of 2 strings.
It is these 2 strings (6mm halyard) that replace the classic “earrings”. The installation is designed as follows: The central pole protrudes from the top of the Tepee by approximately 30 cm. It is to this perch that are knotted in its center an X in willow, hazel or ash, two ends going towards the front, fixed solidly at the ends of the “Ears”. The other two ends are aimed backwards and it is from there that the ropes go directly to the ground where they are laced around a mooring peg.
The Tepee is equipped with a removable canvas door and equipped with an integrated lining closing the bottom of the tent against drafts.
When lighting the fire, it is ideally to protect the base of the central pole against the heat of the flames by a flat stone. The fire must be surrounded by a circle of stones and / or be made in a hole dug for this purpose to “hold it in place”!

Technical features
Seen from the outside, it offers an identical look to the classic design Tipis, but it nevertheless has a secret boot of the first order: All the tent thanks to only a central pole!
No need to shoot down a small forest just for the pleasure of seeing it mounted!
In comparison, the conventional tipi of the same size needs a set of 14 perfectly smooth fir poles about 5.50 m long, while the Tipi Mono-Perche is satisfied with one.
This pole (4.20 m long) is in no place, very ingeniously, in contact with the fabric of the Tipi (except at the point of attachment of the summit) and can often be found on the site itself. location of the camp.
Therefore it does not need to be particularly straight or even to be debarked, and can have a very original shape such as spiral, or with hooks (2 to 3 branches not cut flush) for hanging utensils kitchen, clothes to dry or a rack and so on …
Regulars, of course, often have their own pole, sometimes even lovingly decorated, patinated by smoke and often removable in 2 pieces for reasons of ease of transport (nesting by metal capsule like fishing rods). But a good pole made of a piece is certainly the most elegant solution, even if it does not bring a more in terms of stability; it’s lighter to wear to the chosen place!
