Yurt Canvas,
a top-of-the-range solution
Nautical canvas, originally designed to withstand extreme weather conditions in marine environments, is now used to cover our yurts. This canvas offers unrivalled resistance, making it ideal for humid regions such as Brittany, Normandy, Alsace, the Pyrenees or somewhere else…
Benefits of nautical canvas
Resistance and durability
Woven from 100% Dralon fibres, this canvas offers excellent structural stability thanks to its density and reinforced water/mould repellent treatment.
Waterproof and breathable
With three times the waterproof rating of an ordinary tarpaulin, it remains breathable, preventing condensation inside the yurt.
Nautical canvas is a top-of-the-range solution combining performance and durability, ideal not only for our yurts but also for all uses in demanding environments.
UV protection
The integrated UV filter protects the colours and increases the longevity of the fabric in the face of intense sunlight.
Easy care
Washable and easy to clean, this fabric does not require any subsequent waterproofing treatment.

Standard shades
Most of our work is carried out using canvases in one of the shades shown below.
There is a fixed price for these standard shades.
Special shades
If you can’t find what you’re looking for among the standard colours, we can offer you a wide choice of additional shades for your project.
NB: These shades may entail an additional cost over the standard price.
Important information about colours
The colours of the canvases shown on this page are purely indicative. Due to technical variations linked to display conditions, the characteristics of your screen (brightness, contrast, calibration) and the type of device used (computer, tablet, smartphone), the shades displayed may differ significantly from reality.
These visual representations in no way constitute a contractual commitment.
Made-to-measure canvas
One of our specialities is the manufacture of made-to-measure canvas for Yurts of all origins.
There always comes a time when it’s necessary to change the canvas of any yurt, simply because of the natural wear and tear caused by exposure to the elements (sunlight, bad weather, etc.).
We offer to make canvas for the models in our ‘Les Tentes d’Avalon’ range and also for any other imported or self-built yurts with atypical dimensions.
We give the possibility of making these Yurt covers in the colour of your choice (see the “Colour catalogue” section above). However, prices may vary according to the different shades.
In order to make the canvas correctly, we need precise measurements, which are listed below:
- Circumference or outer perimeter of the yurt
Measurements should be taken at the top and bottom of the mesh.
Ideally, these 2 measurements should be identical, but sometimes the top measurement is very tight and the bottom measurement exaggeratedly wide.
To do this properly, the two measurements are adjusted to correct the gap. - Toono diameter
The measurement should be taken from the outer edge to the outer edge of the toono, passing through the centre.
If the centre is not easy to locate, simply position yourself at any point on the outer edge and slide the tape measure to the opposite edge, noting the greatest distance measured. - Length of a pole
To do this, you need to measure the length of a pole that is not located on a door or window frame, as these are often shorter than the others; in fact, the straight line of the frames is set back from the arc of the circle of the rest of the building.
If the measurement is taken on an unmounted pole, it must not include the part inserted in the crown. - Wall height
The precise measurement is taken from the top of the crosspieces where the poles are housed to the bottom of the assembled trellis (where it rests on the floor or ground).
We add to this measurement what is needed at the bottom in the form of a thick PVC flap to provide effective protection for the edges of the floor by overlapping. - Number and width of openings
When we draw up the plan for cutting the fabric, we need to know exactly where the windows, doors and any stove pipe outlets etc. will be located.
To do this, draw a circle and mark the precise positions of the frames in the lattice, specifying the width of each one and the exact distance taken ‘edge to edge’ between them.
Once the drawing is complete, take a photo of it and attach it to your quote request e-mail, along with all the other measurements required.
These canvases are made quickly and sent by post.
It is therefore agreed that the full amount shown in the quotation will be paid before dispatch and against invoice on return.
The manufacture of made-to-measure canvas is not limited to use for yurts. In fact, the qualities and characteristics of our nautical fabrics, combined with the wide range of colours available, mean that they can be used in a wide range of applications.
Like, for example, any other type of tent, from marquees and medieval tents to roof coverings for shelters and observation posts, shade and rain protection for terraces and other outdoor spaces, such as festival stages, beach or market umbrellas and barnums… the list goes on and on.
